Celia Hammond Animal Trust
A pet needing veterinary treatment can break the bank for many people in the UK. I was one such person back in 2016. Struggling with my business and not getting much work on the supply circuit as a teacher, I had no spare money at all.
The Celia Hammond Trust came to my rescue.
This is a copy of the thank you email I sent them when they offered to help:
'On Wednesday my little friend Kitty was attacked in the night probably by a fox. She is 16 so it was a terrible shock to her. The nearest vet quoted £800 and amputation of Kitty's leg. I made the decision to have her put to sleep very sadly as I do not have that kind of money. Then the vet's receptionist said she knew of a charity that might help. It was you dear Celia Hammond. Kitty is scheduled to have an op with the aim of saving the leg. I am so grateful someone has helped. Thank you so much.'
Celia Hammond was a supermodel in the 60s. She started her career modelling fur but witnessing animal cruelty convinced her to give up and become an animal rescuer.
Celia became especially interested in feral cats. She campaigned to neuter them rather than killing them. In 1986 she started a cat sanctuary where the animals can be nursed back to health and rehomed if necessary. That is where my Kitty went for her op.
Do you have charities like this in your country?
Thank you so much for viewing!
