You've all met our French bulldog, Chase. Now, meet our other pet, Kuroro.

Last year, John's friend whom he have not spoken for a while came by for a visit. He picked up some food for his pet and just happened our house was along his way. The food he got from the store are live roaches. No, not the domestic orange-y roaches but, dubia roach. His pet? A tarantula under specie of Chaco Golden Knee. Since then, my son has never stopped bugging us to get him one.

The night that started Kiero's wanting to have spider as a pet.

They aren't as expensive as they look. You can get one like Kuroro for 300 pesos ($6). They don't even need as much attention as Chase does. But, John didn't like the idea at first because he hates and he is scared of cockroaches. Eventually, he gave in because one of the tarantulas his friend has just hatched their egg. And it was too much for him.

Only then that Kiero stopped asking. And no, we didn't just get it for him because he wanted to. We did so he'd learn more than just responsibility but discipline as well. Discipline in a way that he knows how to deal with each type of pet he has. We taught him before Kuroro arrived of how to have tarantulas as pet. We gave him precautions. We warned him to the point that he almost didn't want to continue having one.

So this is Kuroro. He is of Brachypelma boehmei specie. They are commonly known as Mexican fireleg/rustleg because of the flame like shade of their legs. As the name states, they are natives of Mexico. They are not for novice so you can only imagine my hesitations when we were still in discussion whether to get it or not. They can be a little defensive. We decided we try to keep it for a month. From there, we'll decide.

This is Kuroro when it came home. About quarter inch and was barely over a month old.

Here's how his growth looked like over the past 5 months (and a lot of cringes over roaches during mealtime!). Yeah, we realized it was a little cool to keep them so, we did.

It is not full grown yet, colors aren't looking as bright as it is supposed to be. It will take some 4 to 5 more months before it shows its flaming red legs. We just might adopt another one soon as another egg is hatching for a Chaco Golden Knee specie.

Any interesting pets you wanna share?

Note: Kuroro was home-bred and wasn't wild-caught. We understand their specie is listed as endangered but the guy we got him from has his wildlife farm permit from local government. If we breed Kuroro, we will get our own WFP then.

Thanks for reading!

Love,
Jonah (and John)
