The More You Know

The world of cats is full of unique and beautiful felines that each have their own traits and history behind them. Diversity is an understatement when it comes to kitties and we love exploring the various breeds that have been established over the years. It’s worth knowing about the breed of cat you may be homing as there are considerations to be made beforehand. Not all cats are the same and knowing more about your cat, its lineage and generally as much as you can will help you to care for your new kitty. Today we are looking at another wonderful breed that has gained much popularity in recent years and have been recognised by the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF) for just a few decades, three to be exact.

Something in a Name

Breed names are often indicative of a cat’s heritage but the Ragdoll has a name that is based on its unique reaction to being handled. Picking up at Ragdoll will instantly make it turn into a doll like state, completely relaxed and at ease in your arms. Their temperament has been proven to be docile and friendly and has great levels of intelligence. Their gene pool is very specific and it’s easy to identify ragdolls simply by looking at their build, face and particularly their eyes. All Ragdolls possess blue gem like eyes that rounded. We love cuddling these cats in our arms and gazing into their deep blue eyes that glisten beautifully.

The Big Kitty

Ragdolls are BIG cats, they are one of the biggest household cats and can grow up to around 11 inches (28cm) in size. Their body is built with considerable muscle, big paws and a bushy tail that makes the Ragdoll a proud unit that will carry itself with pride. Nutrition is of course a priority to promote growth and healthy development. Depending on your choice of diet, thorough research should be put into getting the best diet for your Ragdoll kitten as it will serve as their staple diet for a long time. Ragdolls continue to develop up to the age of 4 and their diets will differ greatly to that of a smaller cat.

Choice and Variety

With a number of variations in Ragdolls, there’s plenty to choose from. Colour-pointed, means a lighter coat with darker colouring around the tail, face, ears etc. Bi-colour, a combination of two colours that is predominantly white all over. Finally, mitted Ragdolls, meaning a cat that has white paws that are almost like socks on the feet of this adorable cat. Regardless of your choice, we are sure that this gentle and loving cat will be a perfect choice for any cat lover.
