Maybe one can argue that buying helps the animals because you give them a better life...
From an individualistic perspective, this is indeed accurate. However, buying pets creates demand in the market which inevitably leads to exploitation. I am no peta activist but some of their arguments makes a lot of sense. I think we should stop the breeding of all pets. Let those in existamce live out their lives happily with their owners, but the whole concept of pet ownership is somewhat twisted.

There is one type of animal that is treated way better than humans in Hong Kong - horses.
If you've never been before, definitely worth going to the races next time you are there, it is quite an experience even if you don't gamble.
I've been to happy valley. I forgot about the horses. Racehorses and maybe the pandas at the zoo are treated better than humans.
