2018 - A Year for Powering Up

Source
Now I have to admit that its been a long time since I took new years resolutions seriously.
I frankly cannot remember the last time I made or kept one, and I am unaware of others who have successfully kept theirs either.
Still... they are fun to make, are they not? ;c)
So my 'resolution' for this year is to power up.

Now I realize that upon Steemit the term 'power up' holds a very specific meaning - but I do not just mean upping my Steem Power - which I hope to do anyway.
No - I have a good feeling about 2018 - a feeling that I just might be able to shatter a few personal barriers to get into doing what I've either always wanted to do - or things that I've recently grown more passionate about.
I'll be outlining my plan for the year. Its not quite a resolution - but close enough.

Steemit Initiatives!
During the second half of last year I grew familiar with the Steemit community.
Among other things I started two series in 2017:
'Dishing Out the Yum for Less' - was a cooking-related series where I explored ways to improvise meals on a budget. This was rather short-lived as a series - mostly because I felt that I was cheapening my posts - and eventually abandoned the idea.
However I think that I shall be reviving a variant of this in 2018 as a once per month feature. It is about time that I more fully embraced my generalist nature.

'Nostalgic Game Design Focus' - is a series that is still on-going, where I explore old games that I've played with a focus upon both the nostalgia that such inspires - as well as commenting upon the game design.
I consider this series to be a relative success and I shall be continuing to deliver upon such throughout 2018. I hope to maintain a thrice-per week frequency.
Other 'Pathforgery' Stuff - Other posts that I have made covered various topics - but a number are just 'pathforgery' in nature - meaning that they are aimed for the improvement of others as well as our future.
It is my intention to spin-off a series based upon such (the precise flavour or overall topic concerning such has yet to be determined) - which shall probably occur several times a month.

Aside from the above I would like to commit to establishing a couple more series over time.
JK2 - It is my wish to loosely chronicle and embellish the disaster that was last year's StM Game Development Contest - in the form of a comic. I initially aim to make it a once-per-month series.
Personal Log - I am well aware that there are many things that I simply haven't shared upon this medium. While I am certain that very few here want to hear about my personal life, perhaps more would be inclined to hear of some of the challenges, the defeats and the victories that I face in my day-to-day life.
I will try to keep this down to a once-per-month thing.

Game Design
While I have made a few small but significant steps in the past year.
I grew modestly familiar with the Stencyl game development platform.
My 2D vector artwork went from non-existent to not too bad.
In spite of both of the above I haven't really made a game in the entire year.

I would really like to change this in 2018.
I'd like to not only make but also publish a game.
Which kind of sets me down the tabletop games path - but so be it.
I shall need to further improve my 2D vector art with an aim at making it look 'less' vector-like.
I shall also need to drum up the courage to 'just do it'.

Get Back into Gaming
An irony is that I haven't played proper games other than board games in years.
Its actually worse than I make it sound.
As such I am looking forward to getting into a little tabletop roleplaying as from later this month.
How does that power me up? I need a bit of fun. :c)

Cryptos, Cryptos Everywhere
I am very new in this space.
I know that there is a philosophy behind investing in cryptos but I have to admit that I see them as being a means to an end. In this case the end desired is enabling me to better do the things that I do.
At least - that is what my mind is telling me.
Upon another level I just really like how participation within such is somehow a subversive act.
This year I'd really like to grow a little more familiar with the ins and outs of blockchain.
I would like to grow more familiar upon the level of a developer - even though I presently lack any such know-how.

Family & Friends
Perhaps the most important of all, re-establishing a rapport that was previously lost through what I can simplify as perpetual carelessness on my part over the years.
This is the year when I complete the reversal of that.

Life is never easy but the World remains full of wonders. Charm and discord intertwine in a bittersweet symphony.

Previous Post: New Jerusalem - A Three State Solution
I like seeing these sorts of posts, it's nice to see someone believe in themselves, set some goals, and then go for it. It's a little bit inspiring.
I've been thinking recently I'm gonna smash 2018. Work hard at work. Focus on creating content. Etc! So I'm with you, best of luck with it all mate!
Thank you kindly for the encouragement @fullygaming. :c)
It is important to always set goals. Without them none can be hit. And its better to miss half your goals than to have no goals to hit in the first place. ^_^
Choosing a couple of areas that you would like to focus on is absolutely useful to 'smashing' 2018. :c) Perseverance is the hardest part but keep plucking away - you will make it. :c)
All the best to you also!
Yeah bloody good point! Tonight I'm going to go home and set some real, solid, and tangible, goals, rather than loose ones in my head like I have done in the past.
I need to work on being positive so here I'll say I'm sure that in a years time I'm sure we'll both be where we want to be!
Well said, I'm glad to see this post. really you are a good content creator.
Thank you kindly, @hassanjony, both for your up-vote as well as for stopping by.
I hope to improve over 2018. ^_^
