Why did Donald Trump want to build a wall? The power of imagine the scene

This is the most famous picture called “big eyes” for China Hope Project, which is a fund to help poor kids to back to school.

This picture helped Hope Project raised millions of dollars that did help hundreds of thousands of kids finished their education.

From a persuasion point of view, I used to think this picture provided a specific kid that people could imagine who they help to. The desire to change their life by education from the eyes inspire people to take actions.

Till I read a book call WIN BIGLY, wrote by Scott Adams, lately.

According to Scott, the technique they used here is called “imagine the scene”. The point is not to provide a detail or specific thing or person, it is provided an imagine that people could visualize.

The Wall

Do you still remember that Donald Trump claimed to build a wall between States and Mexico?

During the time, almost everyone thought he is crazy. Main stream media broad discussed or criticized his wall idea for months.

But the point is Donald Trump’s border control policy embedded deeply into public’s mind, since his idea had been repeated many times, no matter they agree or not.

A matter of course, Public thought his border control policy is important, otherwise it wouldn’t be mentioned that many times.

Compare to convince people to pay more attention to border control, his way is away better outcome.

On my understanding, what Donald Trump used are two techniques in this case.

One is the imagine the scene to give people a visualized imagine, which is easy to understand and memorize.

Another one is to give an obviously small mistake to allow normal people easily to recognize and judge his dump idea, which was most main stream media did.

By giving an obvious small mistake, people can judge and criticize to release their psychological defense, specially to criticize the idea from a candidate of president, which is from higher level of society.

It feels too good making a fan with a candidate of president to realize to be convinced quietly.

Summary

  1. Imagine the scene is the most powerful way to persuasion, it will set a mind anchor in your brain.

  2. Providing a small mistake to let people feel better than you. It will help to persuasion by releasing psychological defense.
