Getting enough mulch is an ongoing problem here too.

Last year we produced several large piles of woodchippings from tree clearance, also collected a lot of leaves from the quarter mile lane to our house. But that has all been used up now.

What grows profusely everywhere here is stinging nettle. I have wondered about topping that to use as mulch - as long as I don't pick up any root fragments. Would nettle be okay as a mulch?

Hi pennsif. Nettle makes a great mulch , probably best to cut it before it sets seed to not spread it around

Yes will try that next year. Left it a bit late this year and it had already gone to seed before I had the idea.
