Hello! And... What is an Applesnitch???

Hello Everyone! My Name is Erinn and I am a Digital Graphic Artist. I have also been inspired to create a Permaculture Food Forest!

Why?

Why not?!? Healthy organic food should grow in abundance everywhere! If you can, then you should! :)

Applesnitch Farms Permaculture Food Forest came about as most great things do; from a need! I needed to feed my family and myself; Fresh, healthy, organic, non-GMO foods.

I could never seem to manage to grow a tomato successfully, and I was tired of the (very few) overpriced, tasteless options at the grocery store. So... I did what I do with everything else I don't know about... I began researching! Two years ago I figured out I CAN grow things!

This past year I decided I needed a lot of little helpers! (Well, actually the "lot" part snuck up on me a bit, but that's for another post! Lol.) So I set out to obtain some guinea hens to control all of the millions of TICS (YUCKY!) that have seemingly come out of nowhere in recent years. Then I thought, "Weeell, I guess since I have to get guinea hens, maybe a few chickens wouldn't hurt..." Hahaha! More on that story to come!

So, Applesnitch Farms became a fairly major project for me and I have spent two years, both; learning everything I can about Permaculture, and rejuvenating the remnants of a Colonial era Apple Orchard which had been planted by an early settler from the Massachusetts Colony whom had migrated to the area in Pennsylvania where I now live. This orchard had been long forgotten, and has re~seeded itself over and over ever since in some cases producing apples that are almost extinct!

To the point of the Title... What is an Applesnitch?!? Well an Applesnitch is a legendary, creature said by early Native tribes, and people of the early Colonies to inhabit the Susquehanna River valley and several other areas in the Commonwealth (State) of Pennsylvania in the USA. This being, or creature was rumored to have hidden in apple trees and thrown fruit at passers by, as well as to have on occasion stolen fruit from unsuspecting picnickers! The Applesnitch also known by an early corruption of the word (Ablatwitch) is an elusive creature, and I like to think (similar to Squatch chasers) that I may have caught a glimpse of one from time to time while out pruning in the Orchard! ;)

I am also creative in other ways which I will definitely be sharing here as well!

I create things as I work my way through this exploratory process called life. I sometimes collaborate with others, and contribute my work to a few different projects and businesses. Below; are a couple of examples.

I was brought over here to Steemit by everyone's friend, @daniarnold because she is really awesome and I have been "following" her work for several years now! So yeah, all that that implies! ;) I like to think. I like solutions, but I also like the questions which lead to them! I may say things that sound outlandish at times, please know, that when I do, to me it is the truth as I see it at the time, and if I change my mind I will say so! :)

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I very much hope to share things of interest and value to this really interesting site!

Hey Erinn, great to see you over here !! :D
love d

Thank you Dani for nudging me to finally make the leap into the Steemit community! You may have noticed I am being unusually quiet? LOL. I am trying to get my head around the best manner for navigating this site and making effective use of it for both the UU, AND for the other projects I've been working on! Any insights you find along the way will be most welcome here! I can't thank you enough! :) <3

Welcome to Steemit Erinn. Love that one sentence you wrote: I create things as I work my way through this exploratory process called life. That's how I see it too. Thanks for sharing your story !

Thank you jey-blue for the warm welcome! Re: I create things as I work my way through this exploratory process called life. I find it's easier not to judge, either yourself, or others too harshly if you see it that way! I've followed you so I can have a look at the thoughts you share! You are most welcome!

Yes indeed. It's fascinating to discover that most of our reactions have nothing to do with the other person but with our own self-judgments and feelings of self worth. Thanks for reminding me Erinn. 😊

A permaculture food forest sounds like a great way to unfuck the world :D
Look forward to seeing more of your artwork :)

Thank you very much! Food has so often been the tool of suppression... If everyone is growing it where there is a space, it will relieve a lot of the challenges we face collectively. There is no reason why everyone should not have access to healthy organic food.
