What Should I Name My Permaculture Healing Center? // Also How-to Make Hot Pickled Pears!

Hi Steemit Community! I need your help picking a name for my permaculture healing community center. I originally named it CozyBones Farm but am going to rename it to H.E.A.R.T Center (and keep the name CozyBones Cottage for my own space).
Here are the options I've come up with so far for H.E.A.R.T. :

  • Humans eating and rising together
  • Humans experiencing abundance, resilience, and thanks
  • Humans enjoying agriculture and revolutionary teamwork
  • Healers, earth-workers, artists, rejoicers, and trailblazers
  • Humans enjoying abundance and rising together

Which one do you like?? Also any more suggestions would be amazing.

HOW-TO: Make hot pickled pears!

We are having a blast over here at CozyBones Farm, structuring our garden beds, planting all of our winter veggies, and playing with some delicious new recipes from our farm!

We recently played around with a recipe for hot pickled pears. Yum :-)

So first we'll start with the basics,

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 1/4lb (1kg) firm pears... We picked ours right off of the tree! This tree was here before I moved onto the land (which was around 12 years ago). It is a pretty wild looking pear tree that is abundant with juicy treats.

For the Syrup..

  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 6oz (175ml) cider vinegar
  • Zest of 1/2 organic lemon
  • 1 in (2.5cm) piece fresh ginger; chopped
  • Seeds from 6 cardamom pods

PREPARATION:

  • Sanitize + Sterilize the jars you will be placing your pears into by placing them in a boiling pot of hot water. Keep them in there for about 10 minutes

DIRECTIONS:

  • Start by preparing the syrup. Pour in all of the syrup ingredients - sugar, cider vinegar, lemon zest, chopped ginger, cardamom pods - into a large stainless steel saucepan and bring to a gentle boil allowing the sugar to dissolve. Simmer for 5 minutes, and the remove from the heat.

  • Peel the pears! Gently peel the skins with a knife and cut the pears into quarters. Don't forget to core the pears, as we did on occasion :-) If this is too time-consuming you can also boil the pears for about 10 minutes (or until the skin starts to peel away), and then rub off all of the peels with your hands and core the pears.

  • Place the pears in the syrup and gently poach them for about 5-10 minutes covered in the boiling pot. You can check to see when a pear is ready by testing it with a skewer. Remove the pears when ready.

  • Pack the pears into the sterilized mason jars. Keep the syrup and spices in the pot to continue to boil for about 5 more minutes.

  • When the syrup has reduced about a third, pour it over the pears in the mason jars to cover leaving 1/2 inch headspace.

  • Seal the jars with a lid and process the jars in a boiling water bath for about 30 minutes.

  • Label + store the jars in a cool dark place for about a month before opening. Once opened, make sure to refrigerate :)

Made with Love from the Dreamers of CozyBones Farm! I have opened a few jars and they are delicious. I personally like to reheat them and then chop them up and mix them with rice pudding. They also have made great little take-away gifts to friends who come over and visit.

Hey great to see you are back:) So how do you eat the pickled pears normally - on their own or with custard?

Thanks :-) I usually eat them with rice pudding or chia coconut pudding, or as a side with pancakes!

Sounds delicious!

Never thought people will pickled pear but I guess it taste nice.

It's really delicious!

I would think so. I had a Chinese soup with pear sometime back and that was good.

Wow those pears look good. Personally I like: Humans experiencing abundance, resilience, and thanks. However Humans enjoying abundance and rising together isn't too bad either.

For sure, like the last one, "Humans Enjoying Abundance and Rising Together."
