The year was young when protesters marched across Sofia to try and protect Bulgarian preserved territories in general Pirin National Park in particular. The threat - changes in law that would benefit certain monopolies.

Very simply put - lots of new areas would lose their protected status and lots of trees would be cut down for profit. The real problem according to eco activists would be the precedent that would allow further invasion of natural reserves in the near future.

Concerned people believe that tourism should be cleaner than what major investors plan for the relatively small scales of Bulgarian mountains. And never at the cost of destruction.
