Important: If You're On Twitter Do This NOW!

in #people6 years ago (edited)

Most of the people who came to Steemit were blogging elsewhere, at least the most that I know. They came here because they can use the privacy features here not available in mainstream blogging platforms who need to know real identities, personal email accounts, address and connect all your personal and privacy data to their platform, which Steemit doesn't do, thus far, and would never, hopefully.

By no means this is a comprehensive tutorial on any subject, the ones discussed here as well, this is just to warn friends and those who read my posts to pay a bit more attention on their choices. I got totally surprised when I saw the settings.

Twitter is one of those blogging platforms and it's described as a 'micro-blogging' platform and it's now more like all the others.

I have a number of Twitter accounts, personal and for business, and recently I'm getting a warning message when logging on with the desktop and I'm usually ignoring because no time to read and just clicking it away, today I thought it was time to actually read it, and it was of great surprise. Here is what I saw:

Take your time and read the above, and if you're concerned then go to this link: https://twitter.com/settings/personalization.

You can select what and how much to share with Twitter and their 'certain business partners' by enabling or disabling any of the checkboxes there. I went for the Disable All option.

Save the changes and answer the next question: Are you sure? Turning this off may make the Tweets and ads you see less relevant. with: Yes, I'm sure. And one less anxiety cause relieved.

Fore more info from Twitter Help Center go to: https://help.twitter.com/en/safety-and-security#ads-and-data-privacy

and click on Privacy then Your privacy controls for personalized ads pointed above with the red arrows on the left then right of the screenshot.

The above settings were my choice, you're totally entitled to choose whatever settings you deem suitable for you.

Good tip. As I pointed in one of my tweets - https://twitter.com/vmoisu/status/1021998624572682241 . After installing a new app or creating a new account just check the security/privacy section. Good example why you should do this is here - https://publicbydefault.fyi/
