Rock Paper Scissors logo contest entry #004

Good morning, Steemit! I’m back at @caffetto after a slow start this morning. As @guthrie would say, “I’ve got a million works…”. Some mornings you just can’t wake up and that’s where I’m at. Hard to concentrate and focus, so I’m having a cup of coffee and a few Newman O’s. I’m also working on a project that lends itself well to a lack of focus, and that’s graphic design.

I just put together another Rock Paper Scissors logo for the #rps-logo @peerplays contest. Graphic design is one of those weird things in life that tends to work better when you’re NOT obsessively focusing. I get the assets I need together on a document and then push things around, turn them, invert them and change colors. For me at least, I do my best design when I don’t have a plan. Perfect on a day like this where I’m struggling to concentrate. 

For this design, I referenced more technology company logos and went with something simple and circular. Ideally, I could see this logo working without any text at all. I relied on the symbolism of the rock, paper crane and scissors as negative space against the circular elements. I also tried a few different color variations, so I’ll include those as well. 

Still a great exercise to keep my mind limber and creative. One of my favorite artists of all time is AngryBlue. He’s done posters for the biggest bands in the world including Slayer, Slipknot, Metallica and so on, but he’s still small and obscure enough that he’s accessible. We’re Facebook friends, lol. Daily, he wakes up and does graphic design exercises, not for a contest, just because it’s part of his process. That’s what this #rps-logo has been for me.
