Unschooling Blog, Vol. 11: Mario Bowling, Urinals, and Learning the Nature of the Game.

Today me and Isaiah went bowling. He loves Mario Brothers stuff, and the bowling alley we go to has a Mario Bros. scoring display.

(He also used the stand up urinal successfully today by himself for the first time!)

Check the score display!

Our day in review.

We had a pretty good outing. I was upset I left my phone in the car at first, because I wanted to take pictures for Steem and document it, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. With no phone to distract me, I was able to give him my full attention and just enjoy being with my son.

After we played our game, we went to the bathroom before heading to our next destination. He said he didn't have to go, but to my surprise, as I used the urinal, he bellied up to the one next to me and said he had to go, too.

Last time we tried this he ended up kind of peeing everywhere and on his clothes quite a bit. With a little guidance, however, today he nailed it! I gave him a big hug and told him how proud I was.

After that we went to the game center downstairs and played some medal games (pachinko-like games) and a couple crane games.

Upon trying (and failing) to win a giant Mario toy several times, Isaiah became frustrated. I explained to him that basically the games were rigged so that the place could make money.

When he understood this, he found a couple staff members and began growling at them!

Hahaha!

They were a bit shocked. I was proud of him for expressing his feelings, and said "that's why it's good to only spend a little money here and get out!" His mood improved and we went out for pizza.

I love my son so much. We had a pretty nice time, and I kept thinking how priceless these moments are that we can spend together. As we left, we pretended we were in the Mario cloud level on the escalator up to the parking garage, and jumped up and down repeatedly to get the "coins."

My little Yoshi.

A good time was had by all.

Peace! ✌🏽

I'm reading your blog post and writing this comment half asleep and sans coffee, so I hope it makes sense. I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it and that a big smile is still on my face. What a nice thing to read about first thing in the day! Much love to you and your Little Yoshi!

Thank you so much. That means a lot.
