Meet Graham- How to survive a car crash

in #patricia8 years ago (edited)

Hey steem,

Meet Graham. He evolved to survive car crashes.

http://www.meetgraham.com.au/

I recently finished work on a dream project for the TAC (transport accident commission) here in Australia.

The incredibly talented Patricia Puccini designed and sculpted Graham. We (Airbag) designed and created all the images underneath Grahams skin. They give an insight into how he has evolved.

If you view the website you can click on different parts of Graham to view underneath his skin. If you happen to be in Australia then get over to the Melbourne library and we created 3-D images which are overlaid on Graham when you view him through a Google Tango using augmented reality.

The Tango is pretty new but basically its an ipad with a kinetic stuck to the back of it.

https://get.google.com/tango/

This allows the Tango to see its environment making it possible to generate spatially aware 3-D images. Its all pretty hi-tech stuff.

I have always been a huge fan of her work and working on a project with her has been a highlight in my career as a 3D artist.

All the internal images were created using 3dsMax and Vray. His internals were modeled in Zbrush using photo reference of the sculpture to design and shape his insides.

You can see him in meatspace at the Melbourne state library until August 8th.

I'm brand new to steem (this is my second post) and am still getting to grips with how this all works. I really love the idea of a social system built on rewarding the participants for unique and interesting content. Hopefully this kind of content is of interest to Steem.

Hit me up if you want to know more about working in the visual effects/animation industry.

Cheers,

Patrick

This is mental!!! Holy shit its a frightening face lol

But great work!

Thanks benjiberigan, yep he is pretty freaky. You should see him up close.
His skin is super realistic. Steve and Nick, 2 of the guys I was working with on the project, were at Patricia Puccini's warehouse while they were making Graham. They needed hair so Steve and Nick shaved their legs and got their leg hair hand stitched into Graham's head!

Went and saw Graham in the State library yesterday. Was freaking AWESOME! So many people were there, looking at Graham and tripping out on how real he looks and also at my work. People intuitively knew how to use the Google Tango to look inside Graham. Normally when I do 3-D work I am not there when the audience/client presents the final work so it was really great to see adults and especially kids enjoying my work. A little boy around 4 years of age looks at me and says "he have lots of boobies" :) I worked as part of a great team at Airbag productions. I modeled the base anatomy for the skull, brain, face, leg and knee. A great project and a really successful blend of fine art and new media.
