The Bible with its common sense teaches that things can only be done right in one way, but wrong in many ways; and this is because it is easier to do something wrong than to do it well. This is the reason of why the science of wisdom is so important for the life of men, wisdom is directly related to assertiveness in the face of problems, being assertive and being wise are the same thing. Wisdom is the knowledge of the correct means to live.
And this spiritual thought is summarized in a very important teaching of wisdom to live with happiness and well-being: "Do not winnow with every wind, nor follow every path: the double-tongued sinner does that" Ben Sira 5:9.
What this phrase is expressing is that there is only one way, the way of the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion) and righteousness ("Do to no one what you yourself hate" Tobit 4:15), which is the way taught by God, and men must not deviate from it. Because happiness and prosperity are not for those who despair in search of these goods, but for those who seek the true good, which is excellence: "You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy" Leviticus 20:26.
Those who sin are like passing clouds carried by the wind because they live depending on what luck provides them, and thus any path can suit them as long as momentary happiness lasts; and in a situation of this type, regardless of how intelligent the sinner's calculations are, destructive unforeseen events do not take long to arrive. Avoiding this is essential and science is necessary for this.
The Bible on this topic has many instructive stories such as the characters of Job, Tobit, and Ruth who in their respective books are a permanent reminder of the importance of the truth and beatitude.
