Yoruba believed that food is so much important to human being and it help grow our body system. That why yoruba has variety of food example is the yam flour, yam, grounded maize (ogi), potato and some many on.

Some of this food mentioned above are being eat in some selected location of yoruba land, for ibadan example the people love to eat white yam flour with beans stew (amala funfun with gbegiri) and so for ogun especially the ijebu tribe love to drink or eat cassava grain popularly called (gari).

So patato as a food is been ate in yoruba land but has some selected locality which eat potato more than other people. Offa a local government in kwara state of Nigeria, one of the popular local government in kwara state eat alot of potato species. The potato has made this local government more popular in the north central to extent when anybody see someone from offa we ask that did you bring potato along for them.

Apart from eating of the species , it has alot variety of potato and it contain good source of copper, dietary vitamin B6, C and so on. it had become tradition and cultural of the people of offa as a whole while celebrating anything or welcoming any dignitaries to their midst, they welcome such visitor with potato put in basket and it will be carried by younger to the entrance by which such visitor will pass through this is just to welcome the guest.
