भगवान विष्णु गरुण पर बैठकर कैलाश पर्वत गए द्वार पर गरुण को छोड़कर खुद शिव भगवान से मिलने चले गए कैलाश की प्राकृतिक शोभा को देख कर गरुण मंत्र मुक्त थे कि तभी उनकी नजर एक सुंदर सी चिड़िया पर पड़ी चिड़िया कुछ इतनी सुंदर थी की गरुण के सारे विचार उसकी तरफ आकर्षित होने लगे उसी समय कैलाश पर यम देव पधारे और अंदर जाने से पहले उन्होंने उस छोटे से पक्षी को आश्चर्य की नजर से देखा गरुण समझ गए की उस चिड़िया का अंत निकट है और यम देव कैलाश से निकलते ही उसे अपने साथ यम लोक ले जायेंगे गरुड़ को दया आ गई इतनी छोटी और सुंदर चिड़िया को मरता हुआ नहीं देख सकते थे तो गरुड़ ने उस चिड़िया को अपने पंजों में दबाया और वहां से हजारों कोष दूर एक जंगल में एक चट्टान के ऊपर छोड़ आए और खुद वापस कैलाश में आ गए जब यम देव बाहर आए तो गरुण ने उनसे पूछ ही लिया कि उन्होंने उस चिड़िया को इतनी आश्चर्य की दृष्टि से क्यों देखा यम देव बोले हे गरुड़ जब मैंने उस चिड़िया को देखा तो मुझे ज्ञात हुआ कि वह चिड़िया कुछ ही पल में यहां से हजारों कोस दूर एक सांप द्वारा खा ली जाएगी तो मैं यही सोच रहा था की इतनी जल्दी इतनी दूर वह चिड़िया कैसे जाएगी पर अब वह चिड़िया यहां नहीं है तो निश्चित ही उसका अंत हो चुका होगा दो गरुड़ समझ गए की मृत्यु टाले नहीं टलती चाहे कितने भी चतुराई दिखा लो इसलिए विष्णु कहते हैं
("करता तू वह है जो तू चाहता है, परंतु होता वह है जो मैं चाहता हूं।कर तू वह जो मैं चाहता हूं, फिर होगा वह जो तू चाहेगा )
इसलिए आपको जीवन का सत्य बताता हूं कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता कि आप कितने सुंदर हो क्योंकि लंगूर और गोरिल्ला भी अपनी तरफ लोगों को आकर्षित कर लेते हैं कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता कि आपका शरीर इतना विशाल और कितना मजबूत है क्योंकि शमशान तक आप अपने आप को नहीं ले जा सकते आप कितने भी लंबे क्यों ना हो पर आने वाले काल को आप नहीं देख सकते हैं।
