Going bananas? You're going the right way, but wait!

in #partiko6 years ago (edited)

Hold it close, now peels off! We’re on our way to heaven; wait a minute, is everyone on board? We don’t care about that! Just keep ridding.

This is exactly how I feel when I get on the bananas, one of my best fruits, can I call it a vegetable, I guess every name fits it, and a meaning for each of its three syllables BA–NA–NA (awesome-fruit–vegetable); I guess I went too close to perfection. Just how overwhelming a banana makes everyone feel. Many of my friends detests oranges a lot, mangoes too and also apples, but everyone seems to love bananas, no enemies, quite breathtaking.

More on this, bananas are wonderful, from the wonderful appearance which depicts every inch of nature and happiness and it’s interior with the smoothest and most enriching bite ( I must be referring to riped bananas anyways) one could feel his dentition ridding through the smoothest valleys and the curves never posses a threat. Bananas even though not as versatile as its close relative – plantains can be used in many ways and provides basically same nutrition not the same feeling but the same man in all conditions, this is just like allotropy in chemistry.

Bananas are fruit berries produced by plants of the genus musa, from little and tender suckers to relatively tall turgid plant, the banana plants are the largest herbaceous flowering plants; the onset of development of the banana fruits from the banana heart is as graceful as ever, one step at a time and what stands for nature’s awesomeness develops from what started as a tender sucker, bananas grows in clusters and tiers with each tire containing up to twenty banana fingers and each cluster containing about 5-20 tiers, an average banana cluster can weight up to fifteen kilograms (15kg) and can stand to a height of about two feet (2ft) . At the extreme, a weight of over 30kg and a height of about 4 feet is possible.

A banana finger can weight over 100 grams, a weight which is not comparable to the benefits one can derive from consuming a banana finger, with the peels off, a 100 gram weighing banana finger contains about 74 grams of water(about 74% of total weight) and up to 25% dry soluble nutrient which are utilised by the body system on consumption.

You’re going the right way

Peels down! And apart from the natural and most nourishing water which constitutes most part of the banana and the feeling of palatability which one gets when they consume bananas, the soluble nutrients contained in a banana finger includes carbohydrates (23%), protein (1%) and a little amount of fat, bananas have a rich store of vitamins, minerals, fibres and calories with 89 calories contained in a 100 gram of banana.

Vitamins are organic compounds that are required in our diets in a relatively small amount for the maintenance of normal metabolic integrity, they can be synthesized from available proteins in the body or directly from out diets, vitamins such as vitamin D can be synthesized from our skin’s exposure to sunlight. Deficiency of these vitamins causes specific diseases which can be cured or prevented by dietary supplements of the deficient vitamin. Bananas are good stores of water soluble vitamins such as vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) and vitamin C, virtually every water soluble vitamin is contained in just a finger if banana in reasonable quantities, ranging from 20ug to 8.7mg. This accounts for its versatility in nutritional supplements prescription by the dietitians.

Vitamin B6 present in the body in its active form pyridoxalphosphate is amongst the most diverse vitamin in its functions, approximately half of the body’s total vitamin B6 is bound to the muscles’ glycogen phosphorylase, hence a valuable vitamin in type 2 diabetes mellitus management, due to the presence of vitamin B6, bananas are known to reduce swellings and protect the body against the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus, it aids weight loss and leucopoiesis (production of white blood cells) and improves the nervous system’s actions, an ability which reiterates it’s use in depression management.

100mg of banana contains about 8.7mg of vitamins C, in its active form–ascorbic acid, vitamin C is a Powerful anti-oxidant which protects the body cell’s from being destroyed by free radicals. Free radicals can be produced via the normal body metabolism, exposure to sunlight and environmental pollutants, even our everyday cosmetics could be a source of free radicals; the development of these free radicals are halted by ascorbic acid which also facilitates the absorption of iron and maintenance of active levels of vitamin E which is also an anti-oxidant and plays a similar role in body cell production.

Bananas are indispensable if the health of our blood tissues should be maintained, it has a high content of folic acid (vitamin B) and iron, deficiency of folic acid leads to the development of enlarged red blood cells which are subsequently destroyed by the macrophages as it is recognised as abnormal cells by the reticulo endothelial cell’s, this is the main etiology of megaloblastic anaemia, iron is also an important part of harm which is an essential part of haemoglobin, the oxygen carrying subunit of the blood.
Bananas were thought to contain the highest amount of potassium foe a given weight, even though this claim have been proved wrong with many better sources of potassium being revealed, bananas are still a good source of potassium, containing about 358mg of potassium per 100g. Potassium ion (k+) is well pronounced in the electrical activity of the muscles and nerves, it keeps electricity flowing through these systems via it’s efflux and influx in relation to sodium ion (Na+) and other ions such as calcium, this helps to maintain a good heart, muscles and nerves and sustains their activity. Adequate banana consumption habit has also shown to improve hear and muscle health.

Researches have also revealed low risk of cancer development in individuals whose consumption is banana I’d adequate, they also contain a reasonable concentration of vitamin A which is essential for eye sight. Tryptophan levels in bananas are high, a protein which induces sleep and can be converted to niacin (vitamin B3). Magnesium is also a major mineral which are contained in bananas, it aids muscle relaxation and hence functions in synergy with tryptophan to enhance sleep levels and serenity.

So, if you’re going bananas, you’re going the right way!

But wait!

Vitamins and minerals are required in only a small amount by the body, amidst their little concentration, they produce significant actions, this is a show of their potency and efficiency, just as drugs, chemicals of high efficiency and potency should be taken in little quantity to prevent their accumulation and subsequent toxicity, bananas are not an exception to this principle. In moderate intake, bananas produce no noticeable side effects. The health risks of bananas only surfaces in excess intake, these effects ranges from mild to a serious health problem, producing uncomfortable signs and symptoms.
Tryptophan as already stated helps in inducing sleep a high concentration of Tryptophan due to excess banana consumption leads to sleepiness and dizziness, this may begin off as mild, but a feeling of dizziness during supposed active times is an uneasy situation.

While magnesium aids muscle relaxation, an excess of this action may lead to muscle weakness an impaired ability to perform strenuous activities, this effect is not only due to excess magnesium, bananas also contains high levels of potassium which in excess causes hyperkalamia, which also causes muscle weakness, due to the concentration of these ions in bananas which can be considered as low, only an unthoughtful consumption of bananas could lead to these conditions.

I like to ask what is the recommended amount of banana finger one can consume per day cause I love banana alot.

For someone who consumes bananas every day, three fingers per day is enough, but that doesn't come so often, and in case of less frequent consumption with is more feasible, over dosage is rare.

Bananas, and many other fruits are essential in one's diet life. The vitamins in it are not to be ignored. I personally love bananas.
It's nice to see an article on bananas.

Thanks a lot, your love for bananas just got more solid...lol

Pretty amazing. All the good qualities of a banana laid bare. Damn, I shoulda stuck to this friuty-veg when mom asked me to. I guess without knowing the benefits, people ignore things. So it's 8am already. Do you think it's too early to get a bunch?

Good read buddy.
