Fifty monkeys, most of them baboons, escaped from their cages today and remain loose in the Paris zoo, which had to be evacuated to avoid incidents with visitors, the park reported.

The events took place for reasons that are still unknown and that are being investigated.

The monkeys are for the most part located in an area of the zoo, surrounded by police and by the veterinarians of the establishment.

A detachment of elite shooters has moved to the place with anesthetic cartridges to try to control them.

The police have established a security perimeter that surrounds the park, in the event that any of the animals can escape.

The zoo is located next to the forest of Vincennes, one of the largest arboreal areas of the capital.
