  • Do not over feed your kid before bedtime, heavy foods before sleep is unhealthy and avoid any thing containing caffeine before bedtime or 6 hours before.

  • Stop your kids from playing after dinner or avoid stimulating activities, this can put them off bed for a long time.

  • Apply rules that bedtime goes 5 minutes after dinner or make it a choice, make them choose to go before or after 5 minutes.

  • Build a strong bedtime routine that lasts at least 20 minutes with your child, read favorite books or stories every night and avoid scary stories or TV shows.

  • Do not rock your child to sleep as this will become a habit, when the child wakes he or she would want to be rocked back to sleep it is a condition called sleep-onset association disorder. Instead get the child a favorite transactional object, blanket or toy.

  • comfortability of the child matters alot, make sure he or she is comfortable and there is proper ventilation and moderate room temperature.

  • calling their parents back before sleeping is a common nature among kids, if your child calls you back, wait a moment, it would serve as a reminder that he should be asleep at that moment and that should give him time to fall back asleep.

  • If eventually he or she follows you back or walks back to your during bedtime, follow your child back to bed gently and pacify him or her that its bedtime.

  • provide tools of confidence for your child to overcome their fears e.g monster sprays, cross, toy swords, water spray.

  • develop a system of rewarding your child for every night spent without distraction, put up points after 5 points for 5 days reward him or her with a prize.
