I'm Bored [fun activities] #1: 🎨 The Ceramic Studio 🎨
Welcome to a series of posts with ideas of what to do when you hear the dreaded words “I’m bored!”... Some will be fun ideas to do at home and other, like this first post will be about an activity that hopefully you can do locally.
We have a very artistic family, and from a very young age, we’ve encouraged self-discovery through a variety forms of artistic self-expression.
Our youngest son several years ago and "creative self-expression"…😜
Earlier this week I posted an article about a vase I’d made using glass fusion technique at a local art studio. Today I’d like to share how much fun we had when we went there recently to paint pottery.

The Ceramic Studio offers a range of artistic activities from glass fusion and ceramic painting to canvas painting events and kids camps.
When you arrive at the studio, you are greeted by their mascot Bisquit. Bisquit is a Shih Tzu and a super sweet girl. You can often find her asleep on the desk.

To begin, you need to choose a piece of white bisque ware from the wide variety at the studio. This may be the hardest part to the whole process as there is such a selection to choose from. Prices range from $8 to $100, so there are items to fit every budget.

Once you’ve selected your piece to paint whether it’s an ornament, animal figure, plate or mug, their helpful team members will instruct you to wipe down the bisque to remove any dust and if you find any rough parts, simply sand and wipe the dust away again.
Our boys chose money banks, one a piggie the other a hamburger. Our second eldest daughter, a plate and I chose a bowl.
Next think of a design or look at the examples in the studio or even on your phone – Pinterest has some cool ideas. If you’re looking to do a unique piece, it’s a good idea to think of an idea ahead of time so that you optimize your studio time 😊
Now comes the fun part ~ adding the underglaze. The studio has a large selection of non-toxic and food safe, colored and specialty Fleckle and Bumpy glazes to choose from.

Relax and have fun painting your piece.
The colors of the pieces after applying the under-glaze are very muted, these colors will become a lot brighter once the pieces have been fired.
After drying overnight, the studio then dips it in an over-glaze and fires it in one of their kilns. Your masterpiece is ready to be collected in about a week.
You don’t need to book time at this studio, simply drop in and create 😊 It’s fun with the kids and it’s also fun with your girlfriends or significant other at one of their closed door, adult evening sessions where you can BYOB 🍷

This is really cool! I like it, it not only is a fun activity with the whole family, but you also get to have a ceramic item as memory of the acivity :)
It really is a super fun activity with family or friends and yes, having a memento of the day to take home is wonderful. As is waiting a week to see the final result... suspenseful!

Thank you :) I completely agree! In today's world it's so easy to let kids entertain themselves with electronics and all too easy to forget the simple enjoyment of creating.

Wow. I would have chosen burger if I were there. Parenting posts always caught my attention as highly it will be stories within stories. Just one picture itself might contain many interesting stories and unforgettable memories. Thank you for sharing. Lovely children there. 😍
Thank you! We are blessed that's for sure with 5 amazing and unique kiddos :) And I don't believe I've seen a burger biggie bank before, but it was the perfect choice for our son... he's also the one covered in blue paint in the first photo when he was much younger 😉

When my daughter’s bored, I take her outside and we do som gardening or I get her to collect sticks and build stuff.
That's a great idea, I read your post and watched the video. Looks like a lot of fun. We have woods on our property and the kids built a teepee in them with branches they collected. May have to write a post about that :)
So fun! Yes, we used to go to one like this in Texas. I miss these kind of places! I need to see if there is one in the big town we go to once a week. There just might be one and if so, I know the kids would love it. I did stuff before but I didn't ever let them create something. Your kids did a great job!!!
