The Sweet Mysteries of Life

There are very few true surprises left in life don't you think?

Technology is continually evolving and people are more and more connected not only to each other, but to all resources. Think about it. If you have a question for someone you know, you just have to simply pick up your phone and text or call them. Instead of writing a letter to them, and waiting on a reply. Or worse not receive a response, and just wondering or never knowing. Gone are the days when family or friends that lived out of town would just show up at your door for a surprise visit. We're alerted by phone or social media...and at all stopping points along the way...and often still receive a text when they pull into the drive. If you want to surprise a loved one with a gift, be sure not to order from a joint online account, or the surprise will be spoiled! Google and Alexa can answer any question that might pop into our heads in a matter of seconds. It really seems like all mysteries and surprises of the universe are at our fingertips.

And then, there's the mystery of life itself. In ye olden days (before modern chemistry) there were no pregnancy tests a maiden could purchase from the local apothecary. So perhaps the surprise that there was a life growing inside her came a little later than it does to modern women. The knowledge of your baby's gender before their birth is a huge surprise of pregnancy, and something modern women take for granted. Ultrasound testing for baby's gender during pregnancy did not become widespread in America until the 1970's. Which means a large portion of our population did not know their baby's gender before they were born, and yet this knowledge seems so commonplace nowadays.

When we decided to have children, we decided we didn't want to learn our baby's gender until the moment they were born. My husband and I decided that this one surprise is a gift we can give to each other. We are currently expecting our third baby, and eagerly anticipating that moment of birth when our baby emerges safe and sound, and we can cheer, “We have a son!” or “We have a daughter!”

So, this got us to thinking. There are countless “Old Wives Tales” or superstitions that claim to be able to determine your baby's sex. While it is fun to guess and speculate, how much do people really believe these tests? So, since I am due to give birth to my third baby in a matter of days, I thought it'd be fun for the Steemit community to guess the gender of our baby.

So here's a list of my pregnancy symptoms, and a pic of my current pregnant belly. Comment if you think we're having a boy or girl!

  • Baby was conceived in May, shortly after my 30th birthday.
  • I've had virtually no morning sickness.
  • No breast tenderness.
  • No pregnancy acne … in fact my skin has looked it's best.
  • No weird food cravings, if I had to pick salty or sweet though I'd pick salty.
  • Baby's heart rate has varied from 138 – 142 at nearly every prenatal appointment.
  • My first two babies were boys.
  • All of my current pregnancy symptoms are exactly opposite of what I experienced while pregnant with my boys.

My current pregnant belly … I think I'm carrying high, not sure what you would call this shape.

Comment if you think I'm having a boy or girl this go around. Let me know if there's a “test” you want me to perform, and I will put the results in the comments! The gender will be revealed soon! If you must know … my mommy intuition tells me this one is girl, however it could just be wishful thinking!

Great post!!!!! I love the surprise!
Reading your symptoms and comparing them to my own, I think you are having another boy. My boy pregnancy was my first and I had no pregnancy symptoms. No morning sickness, no cravings, no pains or aches... I was also in my late 20s. My girls were in my 30s and I had acne, back pain, slightest morning sickness and sugar cravings.

Try this one:

THE RING TEST
In this gender test, you hang a ring from a string over your belly. If the ring swings back and forth, it’s a girl. If it swings in a circle, you are carrying a boy.

Whatever it is I know this baby is loved and adored already!!!! But let's be real here, we are all rooting for a little girl, aren't we?!?!? 😂

So I did the ring test, and I kid you not the ring did nothing. It literally didn't move at all! Not sure what that means lol. Hubby has not given a single hint as to which gender he prefers. I honestly think he doesn't care, because he's thinking well we'll just continue to have more babies lol. Both older brothers are now saying "I want a boy!" I want a daughter ... but the more older brothers she has the better I guess lol. I edited the post to add that all my current symptoms are exactly opposite of what I experienced with my 2 boys, which also seems to be opposite from all the myths I've read. So, the mystery continues lol
