I think what social circles someone is in plays a huge role in that.

I see in the broader world that the bar for fathers to be celebrated is so much lower than for mothers. A dad changes a diaper or looks after kids during a parental leave and he's treated like a hero for doing something that's routine for mothers (who don't get the same celebration in the broader society).

But then, in many socially progressive spaces (especially online), you have a backlash effect where the exact opposite becomes true. A father (single father or otherwise) can do amazing things, and you get responses like the ones in the meme. In a real example, I've seen a mom who has her kids 1 night a week get dozens of people telling her she's doing an amazing job for cooking them supper after complaining about how exhausted she was, while knowing full well that if the dad of those same children were to say anything, in front of those same people, about being tired from parenting the kids the other 6 nights, he'd get lambasted for "asking for cookies" or complaining about doing something that women have to do all the time.

I'm personally at a loss for how to react to the phenomenon. I absolutely recognize the 100% legitimate reasons behind the idea of the bar being incredibly low for men, so I know that the backlash phenomenon is justified. I just wish we could celebrate the fuck out of any parent who's going above and beyond for their kids.
