Raising Children is not Childsplay, Pro's and Con's of Being a Young Parent
So planned or unplanned, Young or Old raising children is not childsplay at all.
Early twenties as well as late teens can be considdered as young parents. However there are pro's and cons involved in being a young parent, and i would like to look at a few of these in my post today.
Biologically
Looking at young parenting from a biological point of view:
The optimal age for a woman to have children is between the ages of 20 and 35. Any older or younger might have biological implications and risks, thus are not suggested by medical professionals.
One of these risks are:
- genetic disorders.
Psychological
Psychologically there are also quite a bit of implications such as the psychological maturity of the parents. A persons psychological maturity also drives his readiness to take on certain responsibilities, the type of responsibilities that goes hand in hand with parenting. This however is rule of thumb and not set in stone as some individuals do reach emotional maturity earlier in their lives be it due to nature or nurture.
The Young Parents
Advantages
One of the advantages of having children at a young age is the youthful state of health of the parents being at its peak.
Thus in the physical form they are able to keep up with the physical demands that a young child might have.
these demands include things such as:
- Sleeping late
- Waking up early
- Running after young children
- Joining in on physical activities.
Because the age gap between young parents and their children are smaller, there is often a better sense of understanding between them, as they can associate more easily with their children.
Disadvantages
Having a child at a young age poses the threat of young adults never experiencing the bliss of independence, as well as social development to a certain extent. Young parents often also have not reached a point of financial security yet, and are often not able to provide the desired lifestyle for their families.
Any way you look at it however, having a child remains a blessing that can not be compared to any other joy in life!

After which comes the joy of grandkids... you get to love them just as much, but you get to "hand them back" and have a relaxing cup of tea! Our kids are 25-31 now.... 3 grandkids.

If only they came with a manual. I agree, having them at the age between 23-35 is best, you have the energy while you are young to cope with their mischievous behaviors and never ending demands, and by the time you reach 50 and all energy drained, they are out of the house. We can only but love them.
