2017 Albion Indiana Christmas parade

in #parade7 years ago

A few photos from Albion's Friday night Christmas parade. And by that I mean the few photos that were anywhere close to usable, as my camera fogged up in the cold.

I contend that my wife just came for the horses. Well, there were plenty of them.

I'm not at all sure it's a good idea for the Snow Miser and Heat Miser to be in such close proximity.

It turns out Christmas is universal! But ... so are star wars.

Keep on truckin', Santa.

A lot of my photos were spoiled by the lens fogging up, but I kind of liked the effect in this case.

A Christmas parade? You Americans really don't waste any chance to make a parade... :)

Yep! Interestingly, the Christmas parade in Albion only started back up about four years ago -- and now it's huge. The biggest community in Noble County, Kendallville, has had an annual Christmas parade since I was a little kid.

In Germany we dont do Christmas parades (not much of any parades actually). Instead, nearly every fair sized town has a Christmas market. The good thing is, they go on for about four weeks, until Christmas.
You really dont know Germany until you tried the Glühwein there, thats hot wine with a bit of sugar and a spices mix in it. Its the perfect drink to warm you up when its cold outside. 2 or 3 of them even more so. More than 3 you'll regret the next morning... :)
And of course there are also other things there, the famous german Bratwurst, roasted almonds, candy apples and all that. And stands who sell christmassy decoration for the house, the tree ect.

I'm not much into wine ... but that Bratwurst sure sounds good! My wife won't let me eat that much ... something about dying young.

Honestly I'm not much into Christmas events, due to it being that time of year when I want to never go out every again (we just had our first snowstorm of the season). But on the 19th the Fort Wayne philharmonic is coming up to Albion to do a Christmas concert--I'm all up for that.

Yeah, that sounds good - as long as they dont play the concert outdoor. :)
We had a bit of snow already, too. Over all, its pretty awful now - cold, wet and windy, thats a nasty combination.

Well, Glühwein is red wine, but its more like a tea the way it is prepared. Tea with much more flavour than tea, and with more alcohol. And with more sugar.
The Bratwurst is ok so far, if its well made. Its really key to know what butcher made it. The cheap supermarket Bratwurst is often disappointing.
As for the health aspect.... ok, it mainly consists of cholesterol, and may have some cancerogenes from the charcoal barbequeing. But whats the point of living long, if you cant eat such tasty things? :)
