Panasonic Lumix S1H: 6K full frame digital camera announced

At the beginning of the year, Panasonic made its debut in the full-frame mirrorless cameras segment with the combination of Lumix S1 R and S1, the first specifically dedicated to photographers, the second with more prominent potential in the video field as well. Following the first contact with the two cameras last February in Barcelona, we will shortly present the complete review of Lumix S1 R here on the pages of Digital Photographers and we can anticipate that the full frame camera with more than 47 megapixels has confirmed the good shown in the preview.

However, Panasonic also wants to confirm its leadership in the video world purchased in full-frame format with the Micro Four Thirds of the GH series and announced that the two newborns would soon be joined by the Lumix S1H, the first camera capable of recording 6K/24p video (report appearance 3:2), 5.9K/30p (aspect ratio 16:9) and 10-bit and 60p 4K / C4K2.

Panasonica has worked extensively on signal processing, but especially on the heat dispersion system, to enable recording in any format without time limits. Sensor heating is a problem affecting many mirrorless (Full frame and APS-C) and leading to interrupted recording in 4 K even after a couple of minutes.

If Lumix S1 R is designed for high-resolution photographers and S1 is dedicated to the' content creator ' category, which requires good performance in both video creation and photo shooting, the new Lumix S1H will be specific to film productions, with a professional digital camera DNA.

The announcement by Panasonic is precocious, perhaps intended to anticipate that of the next full frame dedicated to the Sony video, the hypothetical A7 S III: Lumix S1H will be available in international markets only from the autumn of 2019.
