The Invisible Signs

in #palnet5 years ago (edited)

We've all met that person, or perhaps we are that person, who has an invisible sign posted on their heart that states in bold letters NO TRESPASSING.

What we don't know is why it's there. Their body language may say it all for the discerning person. Most people won't look that deep. The person wearing that invisible barrier will also post guards over their heart.

The guards take the form of silence or loud reproach. It can also take the form of addiction which makes their walls successful for a long time. Whatever it takes to protect their inner sanctuary they will do.

I know the signs. I once wore my own sign of the same. Deep disappointment, fear, pain each will cause a person to post the sign. Sometimes there are subtle hints and sometimes the person breaks down or suffers a crisis and then they may talk.

Inevitably to heal, the person needs to talk. Talk to another person, or talk to God. The pain protecting our boarders must come down and the person posting that sign needs to be the first to recognize why it was placed there to keep others away.

The first step is the invisible confrontation of the sign that is there. It can take decades to reach that place, but it is worth the time to enter the world of the living once again.

Feeling can terrify a person who has found a place of uncomfortable loneliness. Believing that it doesn't belong there and that healing can occur will hurt, and no one chooses pain. We all shrink from it and play avoidance games to keep pain at bay, or other people from entering in.

I suggest only that it's worth the effort to look inward, confront the invisible barrier and release the hidden terrors long enough to begin the journey out of silence and seclusion. I suggest that other people can care and someone else understands that pain and isolation.

Every journey begins with thinking of moving from one spot to the next and the belief that maybe there is a better option.

Help is available in many places. My journey began by believing that there may be a better place than where I was and I began.

I hope that sharing my story may encourage someone else to consider that the place we are doesn't have to be the place we stay.
