The Creature Inside
We feed the beast daily
It curls down in the breast
It latches on to secrets
And steals all peace and rest.
Each day becomes a battle
The war is ever real
to yank him by the horns
and take back all he steals..
He hides in pain and jealousy
in envy and in pride.
He whispers words of discontent
And murmurs as we slide.
The torrent is so fierce and
other times so snide,
He chips at all we've built in life
And laughs with cruel delight.
The creature laps at wounds well hid
he moves us to believe
failures swallow up our joy and all the good love did.
The war is more than we can bear,
we hide our face in dread
but if we vanquish all his lies
The beast will shrivel,
bleed and die.
For hearts of love will vanquish
hate and peace can conquer dread.
Forgive the past and bury it
and hope will rise instead.
