Conspiracy Nutters, Brussells Sprouts And The Walking Dead...WTF?

I was putting away a few can goods I got at the store to stock up in case this virus situation ended up calling for people to quarantine at home. I took notice I didn't have as many canned vegetables as I normally do and thought it a good idea to go out and pick up a few. When I was out three days ago I admit it was hard to find frozen vegetables but the canned stock was relatively full. Now that I don't have kids I eat a lot more fresh vegetables or frozen as you can use or buy whatever quantity you need whereas with a can you have to decide what to do with the left over within a couple days time. I tend to keep more stocked canned vegetables during the winter months for family holiday dinners but outside of that I may keep two, three cans around in case my son comes wandering by wanting to know if I have an extra can of something or to throw in a casserole.

When I went to the store tonight it was evident that the panic buying had set in. There sitting on a self was six lonely cans of peas. People had stripped the shelves bare. There was no other kind of vegetables left, no canned tomatoes, and across the aisle sat two boxes and about eight cans of tuna in oil. There was an older fella there grabbing up the last two cans of salmon and I told him the world could be coming to an end and you still couldn't get people to eat canned tuna in oil, whereas a lady walking by busted up laughing. The man smiled and seemed pleased he managed to get his salmon, pink salmon he said, it's the best. I told him I've never taken much liking to canned salmon myself. I decide to go try my luck with the frozen vegetables. There was nothing left, wiped completely out as my eyes scoured up and down the freezer until I came across a hint of something green, sitting there was a whole box full of frozen baby brussells sprouts. It was the first time in my life I was glad the world never had much of a love affair for brussells sprouts.

Walking through the store tonight compared to three days ago I was so glad my kids finally kicked into gear a couple weeks ago and stopped wanting to have me committed and stocked up instead. Every loaf of bread, gone, every can of beans...beans of all things, I usually get them on the cheap because no one ever seemed to be buying them except me, that's why you'll always find beans in my cupboard, call me odd but stuff like beans and brussell sprouts have always been alright in my book. Stuff I don't normally buy I was glad I did grab them when the opportunity was there as that stuff was gone. I didn't know how long I'd have to sit this thing out so I grabbed up a big carton of oatmeal and a box of pancake mix, it's not that I even eat breakfast that often but if worse came to worse those things are filling. If I didn't need them I can always pass them along to the kids.

I feel as though I owe the conspiracy nutters on the platform a gratitude of thanks. Don't get me wrong as there was still a few things put forth I still needed my waders on for but there was quite a bit of stuff presented early on that gave me pause. I am not saying everything will come to fruition exactly as it did it China here in the US as we've head more of a heads up to prepare nationally. It wasn't easy facing the reality that this was something out of the ordinary for myself let alone trying to convince my family. They hung up on me, told me to stop blogging, threatened to take my computer when I wasn't looking...lol, wouldn't answer my phone calls so I started texting them and I didn't stop. Every night I'd add something else to the list I'd never seen before in my life and finally they took an interest and started watching. Even though the main stream media was playing it down they took heed and started stocking up. I think the biggest reason they didn't fall for it being played down was that from what was shared with me on here came to be a truth, that truth was there was a dangerous virus after all and it wasn't all just in my head or in the heads of a bunch of people blogging together.

I spent time preparing for a lot of the information they'd need to survive a long term quarantine if it came to that. They've listened to me quite well for the last two weeks. Sometimes it was overwhelming to them and I'd have to give them a day to digest it all, each day it got easier to convince them you also need this, this and this. I think we are well positioned right now to last several weeks if it comes to that. After seeing what I seen in the store tonight I am ever so thankful for all the heads up I got on here and we aren't trying to run through the store trying to figure out at the last minute how to survive this thing if it comes to that. I told them you wait to the last minute the stuff won't be there and if it is it'll cost you twice as much to buy the expensive leftovers and then when you finally have to shut the door you'll remember there was something you forgot. We've done moved past that. They've had plenty of time to remember. I figure it this way, I'd rather the virus get the last laugh on us for scaring the shit out of us if nothing happens then to watch us make fatal mistakes that cost any of our lives if it's for real.
