Well I've seen dogs walking with casts on and at least they can walk around. But if you had a cast you wouldn't be able to apply the comfrey.
They commonly make casts with openings for wound access. Better if you have the fur shaved around the damaged tendon too.

Yes, the Allentoin in the comfrey draws naturally occuring haluronic acid to where you put it. Be careful of the tinxture, it is 50% alcohol; so keep it away from cuts!
