SPOTLIGHT ON THE ARTIST Episode 47
Zig ( @onemedia ) and Denise ( @d-vine ) opened the show with an administrative conversation from what to expect for upcoming episodes of Spotlight On The Artist, to a shout out to the administrators of MSP Waves and Palnet then jumped right into the most recent tune from an on-going collaboration between Zig ( @onemedia ) and Denise ( AKA @d-vine ), a tune called, 'Inevitable', of a Drum-and-Bass genre with more of a liquid style with ethereal breaks. They later spoke how pretty this tune is and how well their efforts complement each other as the results show in 'Inevitable'. At 23:33 into the show, we mentioned the proposed performing artist list to a January, 2020 event in Germany including Termite ( @termitemusic ), Dookie Brownflow ( @wolfnworbeikood ), Elaine Faye ( @elainefaye ), Ed Privat ( @edprivat ), and Brian McGuire ( @hilladigahackles ) among others...
Brian McGuire ( @hilladigahackles ) then arrived and we continued to talk about the event in Germany, considering he's one of the proposed performers there. Since Brian McGuire ( @hilladigahackles ) and Zig ( @onemedia ) are both residing in Southern California, the conversation then proceded to discuss the best places for a performing artist to live in LA. Then Denise ( @d-vine ) and he brought up the show pitch contest by the Cartoon Network Adult Swim where he won second prize for The Fight Report MMA. He then presented his recent release a remix from his Hacksaw and Dugin project called, 'Against the Wall'. We complemented him on his lyrical and vocal talents and he described the work flow between himself and his brothers in the Hacksaw and Dugin project, their previous album, Girlfriend and then he resumed the talk about the event in Germany and his collaboration with Jeff Leinwand ( @jeffleinwand ). All this started starting at 23:07 into the show.
Segovia ( @elbrujo ) then came in and we talked about a number of current topics from the weather, his summer flu, to the political climate in Venezuela, its effect on the infrastructure especially the power grid, and the resilience of the Venezuelan people through all that. Then he present his recent tune called, Sunset, and how he was inspired by the artist who did the cover image, and how he'd like to continue with this artist interactively, music inspiring the art and vice versa. We also talked about his next beat tape, his previous beat tapes, and how his plans to relocate impact his productivity in his musical endeavors. The entire conversation started at 59:00 into the show.
Skaarl ( @skaarl ), came back this week to play one of his tunes he produced these past few weeks, 'Fumar'. We spoke about how he delineates the term 'remixes' versus 'collaborations', depending on adding new tracks and @winkandwoo in the audience came up with the term 'relaboration'. We also talked about all who've collaborated with him, including those from members of the the Electronic Music Alliance, ( @emalliance ). Of course this lead to mentioning @nickyhavey , and the Electronic Music Alliance special on Spotlight On The Artist planned for next week. He mention how his tune, 'Fumar' comprises samples from a library dating back to 2012 and especially a sample from a smoking area outside a local pub, hence the name. We commented on its Spanish guitar and Latin influences and Dub Reggae feel, and some Eastern music quality to it. 'Fumar' may actually end up on a collection including Leche de Ocelote considering the conversation that ensued. His interview starts at 1:43:48 into the show.
Jeff Leinwand ( @jeffleinwand ), came back today and we discussed his many projects including a work-in-progress with Brian McGuire ( @hilladigahackles ) and a little project he's recently done in the PsyTrance genre, with a light-hearted critique of the genre. He then presented his tune called, 'Temptation' which he describes as workout, yoga, meditation -inspired and as a bit of a divertimento compared to his more serious, focused, intentional work. We encouraged him in the sense that this work he 'just dug out of his closet' feels good to do, and thus that feeling will convey to the audience. His interview starts at 2:08:16 into the show.
Seveaux, instrumental in the founding of the Steem Music Association and Spotlight On The Artist, and a new guest to Spotlight On The Artist , came on by surprise today to play a tune called, 'Powermix 10 song in 9 minutes', which features collaborative efforts with artists including Willy G, and spoke a bit about artists' problem of self-doubt and the best artistic processes to overcome this and achieve a freedom beyond self-doubt. His interview starts at 2:30:46 into the show.
