Day thoughts | Toward Offline Action
Peace Steemians
,
The hashtag is a means of communication not necessarily a means of change.
Many activism on internet who think that their online activism is the end of their work, have taken very dangerous position. It is not to say that being on the internet and helping to share information and raising awareness is not important.
It is extremely important.
It is a method of communication; however, there is some organization that has to come along with our online activism.
The work must be online.
Online messages and movements must be properly communicate offline. We have to be in community, with folks organizing, coming together, meeting with people, knocking on doors.
We must do our best to keep a live the momentum from online to on the ground work. Movement messages must also
continue to be spread by more traditional methods of information sharing through radio, television and writing.
It is not about trying to develop a brand to become famous but it is about real work. The work must be continuous
and consistent.

Hi @oadissin!
Two things:
1 - I tagged you in my last post!
2 - Hashtags were originally created by computer geeks to be a way to organize social media information! So you could click on the hashtag and go to one place and see all the posts or tweets that used the same hashtag. Using the hashtag like that is very helpful to activists as you have talked about in your post. However, most people are not aware of that and they use the hashtag as a joke! What are you going to do? Many people don't really understand a lot of things, so thank you for trying to motivate them!
