An old obsession..... (Part 2)

As mentioned in the previous related posting, there has been a resurgence of an old obsession of mine; the MMO PlaneShift.

The game's GMs run events most Saturdays. Today they seemed to take things above and beyond the call of duty with their event. Although the game world's lore has been mapped out in great detail, the areas accessed to the characters in the game is more limited. Today's event took us out of that familiar zone to a large lake, which game lore places near a city which is difficult to access by game characters. One can normally only fly there via in game pterosaur service. Game Lore places a big enough lake to handle merchant vessels there. The GM running the event did just that by creating a vessel on the lake for game purposes; using building materials easily accessible to them in game and a lake to place it on!

The Adventure started with a captain of a merchant vessel arriving at a tavern in one of the game's cities, looking for a replacement for a drunk and truant crew. Of course any player in earshot took the Captain up on their offer and off we went by pterosaur service to join up with the ship.

It was with wonderful finesse how the GMs set the stage and placed the props, allowing the players to then run with the details and the outcome of the plot.

First the customary storm arose requiring that sails be cut down from the mast....

Pumps were worked to keep the waters at bay...

Darkness descended and only magic spells gave any light to cut through the darkness of the storm....

We rode out the storm only to be attacked by Mermen who were rebuffed. However in the confusion the ship became grounded. Equiped with water breathing amulets distributed by the Captain, we abandoned the ship only to find a merman village at the bottom of the lake!

Peace was finally made and dry land finally reached.

Event rewards were in the form of in game currency, 10 skill points of Swimming, an amulet of breathing underwater, small paddle boat with paddles and a good time had by all!

With such an engaging team and the upcoming Unreal Engine interface this game has something to offer the RPer like none other.
