Monthly Fitness Update (April 20)

April was the first full month of the “new normal” of staying at home given the current health crisis around the world. While it was tough to adjust our routines, we have also been able to establish news one. However, they have not been without some consequences to certain aspects of our lives. I continue to be up right before dawn for my cup of coffee and to catch up on the financial markets. Quickly after, I get on the treadmill for some cardio. I have focused on cardio given the ability to multitask and because the rest of my day is really focus in my home office so getting my legs ready early has helped.

The lag of activity from my home office is taking its toll on me as I can feel that my flexibility has gotten worst as well as my strength and muscle mass has been impacted. I have yet to gain the motivation or momentum to do any weight training despite actually having the tools and space to do so in our new home. I think this is impacting not only how well my body feels from a physical aspect but also the level of weight loss I would have expected to achieve given my dietary discipline this month. Certainly some to aim to adjust as it seems I will have some more free time in the near term. Also, gyms will potentially open soon although I may not want to risk exposing my health and continue practicing social distancing.

I am proud to say that I have continued my disciplined approach of my diet the past month. While results have not been felt or seen by me, I think that sticking to the plan will ultimately work to my benefit. I have even been doing a great job at my Intermittent Fasting approach as well as my weekdays have been able to complete the plan consistently. However, one concern I have been having is that once my window of feeding opens, I feel that I am eating a lot and too often. The reality is that being restricted to my home gives me the urge to snack and eat more often.

Trends April 20.png

Ever since the first wearable device came out, I have been using one to gather data on myself and keep my accountable for my activity. This is no longer a battle with myself to get fit and healthy, it is a war as I continue to age and struggle to do so. However, the use of technology is welcomed and I have started to look at my data as I wonder why it is getting tougher for me to feel and see the progress I expect to have with my fitness work. It was interesting to see this trend report from the App which has me assessing how to incorporate the feedback in an effort to improve my progress. As I establish my routine, I will work on improving on some of these to see if they impact my fitness growth.

Another development that I hope will help my fitness efforts is that @actifit has finally updated my version of the app I use to leverage the wearable technology. This is great as I have always struggled with having to hold my mobile device in each activity. I cannot wait to get back to sports without having to hold my phone! I have been testing it out these last couple of days and while in the past I was seeing more activity on my wearable when compared to the app, it seems that the update has made it the other way as I am seeing less on my wearable that my app. However, it is normally not enough to make a difference so I will slowly transition to no longer carry my phone while on the treadmill. Actifit continues to be a motivation as they continue to develop the tools to engage with the community in a seamless way!
