Canada Day Weekend on the Water

in #palnet5 years ago

First of all, Happy Canada Day to any Canadians out there and anyone else who wants some well wishes.

This weekend I went up North to visit my cousin who recently bought a new boat. Funny enough I didnt actually take a picture of it despite having taken several shots of the many sail boats in the harbor and on the water.

The water was calm and the weather was spectacular. Blue skies, big fluffy clouds, nice and sunny but not too hot - we really couldnt ask for a better day.

One thing that was really neat in the harbor was the sound that all of the sail boats made. They all had dangling ropes with metal rigs on them that blew in the breeze and gently banged against the boats spar, which I believe is the name of the large pole that holds up the main sail. The effect was a really neat wind chime sound that carried throughout the harbor. It was actually one of the most soothing sounds I've ever experienced and was what I remember most about the day.

We were on Lake Ontario which is a massive lake connected to the largest series of fresh water lakes in North America. Collectively the lakes are referred to as the "Great Lakes."

We sped across the water and docked in another harbor and ate lunch at a pub in a small town close to where my cousin lives.

We passed the sign above on our way back out if the harbour and I couldn't help but laugh. I don't know if the water raised with all of the rain that we've been having or if it was placed wrong, but regardless, you couldn't read it properly. All I could think of was:

"Vessels entering the harbour have Glug Glug Glug Blub Blub."

(That was my impression of someone talking under water.)

Later on when the sun started to set the sky turned a soft pastel purple and pink color. It was really quite beautiful. I thought the color change in the photographs from earlier on was kind of neat as well.

The water and harbour were very busy with it being the Canada Day long weekend, so coming back into the harbour to dock took some time. Sail boats rypically have the right of way and they move a lot slower then the speed boats (which is what we were in). We had to wait our turn but it was a really nice night so I didnt mind the wait.

This was a neat shot of people on the breakwater watching a sail boat coming in and below are a few more boats back in the harbour.

Have a great day. Thanks for stopping by :)

This must have been a really great trip for you....to go see your cousin and hang around the docks with fluffy clouds. This could be a really nice time to get to know your cousin again. Really enticing pictures. Happy Canada Day. And with the 4th of July here, Happy Day in the USA, as well.

Beautiful pics....Happy Canada Day!

Thank you. Happy 4th of July!
:)

Excellent job, the photos are very nice. My favorite is #5 with the sea gull.

Thank you. That shot actually took quite a few tries to get the gull in focus and at the right angle.

Persistence get's the job done.

Lake Ontario is such a great place for sailboats. The regattas are the best and club racing is fun.

Any boat out on the water is awesome. Happy Canada Day eh?

I havent actually ever been to or witnessed a regatta but I it would be really cool and fun. I agree that being on the water in any boat is awesome.

Happy Canada day!
