I've been building my own PCs since around 2000. In my experience, the 2nd most common component to fail (after mechanical hard drives) are power supplies. It is definitely worth it to get a quality power supply rated for a decent amount of load over what you expect to use it for.

Thanks for your comments. I definitely agree with you. A poor quality power supply can degrade or destroy your entire system.
I was just going to speculate this as the most likely reason for a 1 kw power supply. Can't wait to see what else you throw into this.

I'm not that familar with AMD, but just don't skimp on the motherboard.
I'm normally an Intel guy, but AMD has been killing it recently. I chose an MSI mobo. Will post about it when it gets here.
I agree. I was tempted to get an AMD this time around, but I got a good deal on an intel.
