Today I bring you an artist whose life and work is considered one of the strangest, had an exquisite boom in Europe and the United States getting to value their works in good price, but suddenly disappeared from the art scene for over 30 years until its reappearance in 2014 I'm talking about Martial Raysse, accompany me to know a little about his mysterious life.
Born in France this pop artist retired from the artistic world that decided to go to the countryside to live for 30 years after the defeat of the May revolution in 1968 revolt that followed closely by the news, and motivated to political ideas is depressed traveling from the United States back to France to live in the countryside, has never stopped painting, but went through incredible economic problems that took him to the edge of misery.
His position was very strange in moving away from everything, especially his success in the highly prized art market of the United States that would have led him to a greater fame than he already had for that time, would later devote himself to painting and work as a painting teacher, but not only practice painting, I also do work in photography, sculpture and film. And in spite of having moved away from the markets, his works never stopped being quoted.
When he was only 12 years old he already gave his first brushstrokes guided by his father who was a ceramist, so at an early age he had already polished his art of painting which allowed him to mature quickly in art and when he was 18 years old his work was valued by other painters who saw the potential that Martial Raysse had to develop in the different artistic strata of France.
By 1961 he was giving his first exhibition in Milan Italy where his art already had clear features of pop art, years later would come to be considered as one of the forerunners, as it used countless resources of the consumer era, the same artist said that supermarkets were museums of modern art, that first anti-consumption exhibition was sold in less than 20 minutes.
He was one of the pioneers in the use of Neon in works of art, and by 1963 he was beginning his steps in the movement of new realists, a stage in which he shared with numerous artists about the different visions generated by this collective, this allowed him to introduce in his works a number of innovations before many artists thought about it.
It was not until 1980 and after the depression by the defeat of May French is when he decides to change with an unexpected twist, reconsidering all his postulates both in painting and sculpture. It was in the exhibition of Pompidou where the transition of those 3 decades in which he was in the anonymity and without making public appearances could be appreciated, so practically it is a rediscovery of the French artist for those generations that obviated the existence of such a genius made artist.
Among his periods can be found, his stage of variable geometry or as the critic called his pop stage, as well as classical painting with schemes of composition adapted to the time, some years of collage and the rest are works that I do with mixed techniques managing to handle large numbers of pictorial genres, without leaving the subject of consumption aside, and with clear examples that left his marked ideology after the defeat of May historic in France.
