Lines for electrical trucks on highway
Hello,
this weird wires on the normal highway (Autobahn) in Germany are not a normal sight. Usually the electrical lines except that of trains and trams are buried in the ground.
There are 5 km on the A for test purposes for the charging of the electrical trucks. The principle is nothing new as it is used on trolleybuses. Mr. Siemens invented it more than 120 years ago in the also back then start-up rich Berlin.
A lot of people will argue that this is nonsense to be build on a highway, but let's think about a little. On this portion are daily more than 14000 trucks. If only half of them would be electrical you would run without emissions.
With this system we could extend the range without needing of big batteries and a lot of charging stations which take time. A normal truck would run and load and for the last km would use his normal battery. It is a way to viable use electricity in masses. Ok, we could argue to put the trucks on trains where the technology is present and load them there. On trains the transport would be much slower as the freight trains don't stop everywhere. Here you just go on the highway and take the best exit.
I like to see this minor changes, because something is done. Germany, infrastructure of technology is behind to a lot of countries. With changes like this, it can be again a leader. I think there is a lot of innovation present in here, but like everywhere in the world, we have politicians, especially now where we have a change in politics, with politicians that don't want to invest in science or that are science deniers.
What do you think? Is there a need for a change in politics, so that real issues are targeted? As a disclaimer, I don't vote the green party or the ecology party in Germany as I think they are not doing what their name says.They are much on the red side going towards socialism rather than taking care of the green side of things.
