Will India’s Modi break the ice with Pakistan in his third term?
It’s unlikely, say analysts. India has little incentive to seek to improve ties with Pakistan at the moment. Narendra Modi took oath on June 9 to become India’s prime minister for third consecutive term.
In his previous terms, Modi has maintained a tough stance towards Pakistan, and it’s unlikely that he will change his approach now. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has also been critical of India’s policies, which has further strained relations between the two countries.
Modi’s government has been focused on domestic issues, such as the economy and national security, and has not shown much interest in improving ties with Pakistan. Additionally, Pakistan’s political landscape has changed, with Imran Khan’s government facing challenges and the country’s economy in a precarious state.
While some analysts suggest that Modi may try to improve ties with Pakistan to improve regional stability and economic cooperation, it’s unlikely that he will make significant overtures towards Pakistan in his third term. Instead, he may focus on strengthening ties with other regional partners, such as the United States, China, and the European Union.
