Unemployment Definition Causes And Solution

Unemployment is an economic term. As the term employment means occupation so unemployment means absence or lack of employment . When people are out of work, they are said to be unemployed. This is the problem that most countries of the world are facing today.

Unemployment A Social Evil

Unemployment is a social evil with far reaching effects. It spells starvation, diseases and death as its victims. Unemployed have no concern for right, wrong and good and evil. Dishonesty, corruption, crimes, sin and vices of all kinds prevail in a society where population is unemployed. Politically unemployment breeds discontent in the masses. Votes are sold and bought. Revolution and mob violence are the result of unemployment. People being busy in search of jobs for themselves cannot pay attention to their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

Causes Of Unemployment

There are many causes of this world wide unemployment but five of them are of major importance especially in case of third world countries including Pakistan. These causes are;
First their system of education is wrong. The system turns out a peculiar type of Youngman. He hates manual labor. He is good for nothing except reading books and dreaming high posts.
Secondly, most of the third world countries are not industrial. So these countries cannot absorb most of their young men in factories.
Thirdly, in all third world countries, a group of privilege people controls key industries in these countries. By equally distributing work and leisure among all, all men will have enough of work and enough of leisure. But the educated young men and common men have neither the capital nor the opportunities to try their luck in the business.
Another problem with the education system of these countries is that most of the educated people in these do not possesses any technical knowledge due to which they cannot get jobs in industries and stays unemployed.
Lastly, birthrate in third world countries is also very high. The resources of these countries are not enough to maintain such a large population. People are more and jobs are few. The result is unemployment.

Solution Of Unemployment

The problem of unemployment is very great and as such it is not easy to solve it overnight. But much can be done to mitigate the evils of unemployment. Some of our young men may be encouraged to take to co-operative farming. Others should be helped to start own business of small or medium scale. Vocational and training centre should be set up. Family planning should be followed to check the high birthrate. Only after a long struggle we will be able to solve the problem.
