Oil painting with bright red ground - 'Aston', 2014
Using oils in abstract painting can be a challenge for artists who usually pursue realism.
Here is the second painting where i brought all elements of the composition down to their basic symbols.
To keep the vibrancy of the paint and create an extra layer of color, i painted a bright red 'ground' onto canvas. The textured greens on top are oil mixed with a spectra gel, oil and turps solution.
This work is about a place i used to live, in the bottom left corner are depictions of the huge gas towers that were a landmark in the area, and fascinating to me as a child.
Thoughts and criticisms welcome! Resteem if you think others may enjoy this.
nice work...oil painting is not easy but if well done appears great
Thank you! Yes it can be an uphill struggle but oil is by far my favourite medium.
I know. The brightness is sharp even in using to paint buildings. Do Visit my blog & find my short family story I know you enjoy reading & commenting...
I like it :) getting a nice eerie vibe from this. I especially like the elongated figure, and the torn paper effect in the central hole
Thanks, im pleased you got a feeling from it -
it's from a rather ugly industrial place in Birmingham though it has a magic for me. Your opinion is always highly valued here Will!
