Viktor Mikhaylovich Vasnetsov ( 1848 – 1926 ) was a Russian painter. He became known primarily as a painter of mythological and historical subjects. Already in his youth he was interested in science, astronomy and painting and worked for an icon dealer of his hometown. In 1867 he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg . Vasnetsov is considered one of the key figures of the Renaissance movement in the Russian art scene.
