This watercolor from the series "Travel and Departures" is dedicated to Lampedusa, a Mediterranean island at the center of the world of arrivals and departures of thousands of migrants and tourists. Lampedusa abandoned, Lampedusa heroic Human Lampedusa. The island whose name immediately evokes images of landings and tragedies at sea has not decided to become the symbol that is now, it was a simple island of fishermen with a small fleet of fishing boats.
In the last fifteen years, thousands of human beings have trampled the ground for various reasons. The migrants certainly, but also thousands of tourists attracted by the crystalline sea, the now omnipresent military, the curious, the operators of the third sector. A continuous journey that has changed the face of the half-closed community of the last century. Back you do not come back and the "new" island is still dealing with this new identity, partly imposed from outside and partly laboriously built inside.

And tourists? Difficult to estimate them exactly. The hoteliers record the presences but in the summer flows there is a lot of black and it is difficult to obtain a precise data. For the last five years, data from the East Aeroservices say that, taking into account the period from June to September, in 2011 the lowest figure was reached: 55,277 arrivals. The following year they date back to almost 7,000, reaching 62,968 and in 2013 they reached the peak of 72,370 landed on the Lampedusa track. The total then fluctuated between 64,000 and 66,000 in the last two years. To these are added the arrivals with the ship, which bring about 20,000 people on average each year.

I wanted to represent the union of peoples with the two hands that tighten a rope, with the float typical of professional networks. The dawn is behind two bastions of rocks, for the float as a symbol I leave the interpretation to you.

Questo acquarello della serie "Viaggi e Partenze" lo dedico a Lampedusa, isola del Mediterraneo al centro del mondo degli arrivi e delle partenze di migliaia di migranti e turisti. Lampedusa abbandonata, Lampedusa eroica Lampedusa Umana. L’isola il cui nome evoca subito immagini di sbarchi e tragedie in mare non ha deciso di diventare il simbolo che è adesso, era una semplice isola di pescatori con una piccola flotta di pescherecci.
Negli ultimi quindici anni migliaia di esseri umani ne hanno calpestato il suolo per varie ragioni. I migranti certo, ma anche migliaia di turisti attratti dal mare cristallino, i militari ormai onnipresenti, i curiosi, gli operatori del terzo settore. Un via vai continuo che ha cambiato volto alla comunità semichiusa del secolo scorso. Indietro non si torna e la “nuova” isola sta ancora facendo i conti con questa nuova identità, in parte imposta dall’esterno in parte faticosamente in costruzione all’interno.

E i turisti? Difficile stimarli con esattezza. Gli albergatori registrano le presenze ma nei flussi estivi c’è molto nero ed è difficile ricavare un dato preciso. Per l’ultimo quinquennio i dati dell’Ast aeroservizi dicono che, prendendo in considerazione il periodo che va da giugno a settembre, nel 2011 si è avuto il dato più basso: 55.277 arrivi. L’anno dopo risalgono di quasi settemila, arrivando a 62.968 e nel 2013 si raggiunge il picco di 72.370 sbarcati sulla pista di Lampedusa. Il totale ha poi oscillato tra i 64.000 e i 66.000 negli ultimi due anni. A questi sono da sommare gli arrivi con la nave, che portano circa 20.000 persone in media ogni anno.

ho voluto rappresentare l'unione dei popoli con le due mani che stringono una corda, con il galleggiante tipico delle reti professionali. L'alba è dietro due bastioni di rocce, per il galleggiante come simbolo lascio a voi l'interpretazione.
