Paige's Playlist, Vol. 2: "Ghost" by June LaLonde

Title: “Ghost”
Artist: June LaLonde
Length: 4:04
Platforms: YouTube, Bandcamp

“Ghost” is a song I found while surfing YouTube a while ago, and stands as one of the only songs I’ve bought on Bandcamp. This song has a simple infectious tune, and yet has a haunting quality to it as well that makes it not easily forgettable.

The instrumentals of “Ghost” are, in the words of the artist, consistent of “bleeps, bloops, chugga-chuggas and snap-POW!”. The main melody is carried by a simple 16-bit track that is backed by a kicking drum track. The melody is repetitive, but a good kind of repetitive that builds throughout the song.

The main focus of the track is the vocals, which repeat the same chorus over and over again. These vocals paint the picture of a man whose “ghosts” are consuming him. What those ghosts are- anxiety, past mistakes, loss- is not made clear, but we are given hints by the sparse verses.

If you’re a fan of songs with interesting feelings to them, or songs with 16-bit instrumentals, I highly recommend this one.
