The role of the p2p protocol in the blockchain is to discover nodes.

We know that the blockchain is a decentralized network, so there is no centralized node in the network to coordinate and maintain the nodes of the entire network. Since each node is a server and a client node, a way is needed to coordinate the distribution of nodes throughout the network. The P2P protocol is a suitable solution to this problem.
