RE: The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Just wait till you get to Venice (if you do). They have official tourist prices and local prices. Like €1.50 for a espresso for a local, and €5 for a tourist. And don't think for a moment you could fool them into thinking you are a local - they can smell tourists. :)

Noted! Thanks for the heads up, @beatminister. We won’t make it up that far into Italy this time but I’ve made a mental note. Florence is as far north as we’ve gone, with a few coastal towns in between. We’ll get down near Naples before we take off and hit a few more coastal spots along the way and that’ll be the extent of our Italian adventure—off to the next one.

Oh man, tourists! We’re a dead bust just looking at us—the smell, the look, they see us coming. Then when we open our mouths and don’t speak the language we know we’re in deep ish!

Thanks for keeping an eye on, much appreciated, I hope you’re ending the new year right.

Wait a minute?! Dude, you’re in Germany?? Eh, I’m coming over to your page.

The Venecians been specialists in ripping off foreigners for centuries. :)
Today its a town with a population of 50,000 who have something like 5 million tourists visiting every year - so they know the drill. And they all live from tourism, there is not much else.
