I don't know if an ICO is really necessary for your project. It seems like there are funding opportunities available on Steemit and Utopian which would keep it more decentralized with less financial work required and less regulatory hurdles to deal with. A distribution of tokens to Steem holders would be a good way to go but I'm not sure what costs would be involved in creating the SMT. Will it just be open source development to create a new SMT? Something like this already exists on the Bitshares exchange but probably not as advanced as SMTs? It will be interesting to follow your progress!
