The word Science comes from Latin word "scientia" meaning "knowledge" and in the broadest sense it is any systematic knowledge-base or prescriptive practice capable of resulting in prediction. Science can also be understood as a highly skilled technique or practice.
Scientific publishing is a multi-billion dollar industry, yet little of that money is reinvested in the scientists actually conducting the research. Paywalls for those looking to access information and high open access publishing fees impede scientific progress and favor people and institutions with resources.
As one of the last independent, nonprofit scientific publishers completely governed by scientists, The Electrochemical Society has developed a business-model changing initiative called Free the Science that will make our research freely available to all readers, while remaining free for authors to publish.

• To modern educated people, it seems obvious that matters of fact are to be ascer¬tained by observation, not by consulting ancient authorities. But this is an entirely modern conception, which hardly existed before the seventeenth century. Aristotle maintained that women have fewer teeth than men; although he was twice married, it never occurred to him to verify this statement by examining his wives' mouths.
• Some things are believed because people feel as if they must be true, and in such cases an immense weight of evi¬dence is necessary to dispel the belief.

• It is not by prayer and humility that you cause things to go as you wish, but by acquiring a knowledge of natural laws.Science, ever since the time of the Arabs, has had two functions: (1) to enable us to know things, and (2) to enable us to dothings.

• The modern power of the State began in the late fifteenth century and began as a result of gunpowder. From that day to this, the authority of States has increased, and throughout it has been mainly improvement in weapons of war that has made the increase possible. This development was begun by Henry VII, Louis XI, and Ferdinand and Isabella. It was artillery that enabled them to succeed.

The advancement in science has been nothing short of a human revolution that has impacted every sphere of life. A man in the 15th century could hardly imagine that one day life would be like this. But where it has helped the human race in so many ways, it has also registered its negative impact. A main worry is that the speed with which science is progressing is far greater than the evolution and development of human mind. This theory has been rightly propounded by famous philosopher Bertrand Russell. There is hardly any doubt that this has led human being to use science mostly for the wrong reasons including death, war and crimes. It is likewise quite alarming to know that theories and principles of science are gradually replacing man’s belief and faith. Technology and science has also made man into a modern machine so to speak as it is common to see emotions like compassion, brotherhood and other feelings are already in short supply. More than anything else the modern civilisation needs faith and brotherhood.
