Aria from Somtow's "The Faithful Son" Bangkok premiere this evening
This is Cassandra Black's stunning performance of an aria from one of the operas I composed in the ten-part cycle "DasJati • Ten Lives of the Buddha". Almost more amazing than her performance is the fact that she remains on stage as a statue for the entire opera and only comes to life to sing this aria about 90 minutes into the work.... Chot Buasuwan, the violin soloist, was concertmaster of the Siam Sinfonietta until this year when he became resident concertmaster of my "grownup" orchestra, the Siam Philharmonic.
She is utterly amazing! Just watching her come down the steps and walking across the stage, carefully placing each bare foot! What control and depth of being the character!
I've streamed them on youtube, but missed some parts...
Thanks for sharing her performance.
Das Jati is such an intense journey. I don't know if the series you've planned is enough to satisfy us!
Well you know they're actually almost 600 stories in the series. The final 10 stories are the ones that are iconic within the Theravada Buddhist tradition. If I were really super human, I start with book one and go all the way to the end, including all the animal stories. But right now with these 10, I have five left
Wow, that's more than I realized!
