Origami - Tesselations
Tessellations are an arrangement of shapes on a surface, in this case on paper. The logic behind origami tessellations is creating a grid on top of which shapes are folded by manipulating directions of folds or squishing shapes. Most origami tessellations are folded on a hexagon on triangle grid since it gives a lot of possibilities with patterns and shapes.
This is how I make a hexagon from A4 paper:
Now comes the fun part, making the grid, this step depends on how detailed you want the final work to be.
After that you start folding the shapes in, I tried making as many as I could think of on this sheet.
This is a nice simple model to start out with:
You can play around with the hexagon/triangle sizes angles and so on.
Here's a sligtly more complex model:
This is an example of extending a pattern using a square grid, you could in theory make it indefinitely but who has time for that 😆
Hope you enjoyed the post, feel free to comment 🙂
That's very impressive @ivan-g...
I do like the designs and the possible applications to textiles :)
Thank you, I might try something, tnx for the idea :)
